Consultant/Senior Consultant – significant field experience
The PICU Consultant is responsible for providing expert, high-quality care to critically ill pediatric patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The consultant leads the PICU team, ensures evidence-based care protocols are followed, and plays a key role in clinical decision-making, patient safety, and education of junior staff.
Provide direct management of critically ill pediatric patients, including diagnostics, therapeutic interventions, and ongoing care.
Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds in the PICU.
Oversee and supervise the clinical work of PICU registrars, residents, and nurses.
Collaborate with other specialties (e.g., pediatric surgery, cardiology, neurology) as part of the patient care team.
Develop and implement PICU protocols and policies in line with international best practices.
Participate in code blue and rapid response team activations as needed.
Ensure accurate, timely documentation of patient care and clinical decisions.
Engage in family counseling and support regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and morbidity/mortality reviews.
Participate in teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and PICU nursing staff.
Maintain continuous professional development and participate in clinical audits and research where applicable.
