The Specialist Nephrologist is responsible for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases. The role includes oversight of dialysis services (hemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis), management of complex renal conditions, and leadership in clinical care, education, and quality improvement in the nephrology unit.
Provide expert care for patients with chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, and end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Supervise and manage outpatient and inpatient dialysis services, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
Develop individualized dialysis prescriptions and monitor dialysis adequacy and patient response.
Collaborate with dialysis nursing staff, technicians, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
Manage pre- and post-kidney transplant patients in collaboration with transplant teams, if applicable.
Participate in nephrology consultations across hospital departments.
Lead or participate in quality assurance and infection control programs related to dialysis.
Educate and mentor junior doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals in nephrology and dialysis care.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical notes, orders, and care plans.
Keep up-to-date with latest nephrology guidelines and contribute to protocol development.
